Power level 3
Last night, I slept in my own bed for the first time since the night before my accident last August. It felt wonderful! I couldn’t have done it without the help of my girlfriend Julie and my sister Jimmy.
On Friday, I had the chance to meet Josh Dueck., the first person in the world to do a backflip on a sit ski He was truly inspiring, based in part because he injured his spine trying to do a front flip years ago.

who needs a gym?
Everyone would agree that it’s a good idea to work out at least twice a week, and include weight training in your routine. Yet my therapists at the hospital won’t allow me access to the gym to work out, since I’m on a waiting list for a long-term care facility. Yes, that’s as mean-spirited as it sounds.
But who needs the gym? I can work out in my chair and in this video I am working my chest and shoulder muscles.
The doctors and the occupational therapists told me I have no innervation in my left bicep. However, Julie and I are going to prove them wrong! We have been doing functional electrical stimulation on my left arm bicep for a week now, and as you can see this video I’m already capable of moving the forearm with my left bicep.
on the weekend, I had my wrist splints removed for a while, and discovered I can now move my right wrist in both radial and ulnar deviation motions [for you nonmedical types, that’s a sideways motion like the Queen’s wave]. Today, I’m getting consistent flickers when I try to flex or extend my right wrist [i.e. move my palm towards my forearm]; no real control with this 2nd motion, but it’s a start!
